Reading it was the equivalent of entering a warm room after being out in the cold, of lying in a breezy field with wildflowers and big puffy clouds overhead, and I wish I could just wrap my heart in this story and leave it to soak. She gave it lungs to breathe the air and a brain filled with vengeance.
Estrella's growing connection with Fel, the mystery man who comes out of the enchanted earth, is a beautifully slow-burning love story of shared secrets and small moments so tender they'll make some readers cry.
Every time I put it down, I was excited the entire day at the thought of picking it up again! This is a story that both broke my heart and held it inside me. For generations — each generation borne five daughters the Nomeolvides women have been cursed; everyone who they fall in love with disappears into thin air.
The Nomeolvides women and Fel became part of my family, and it actually felt like a real family. Like, there could just be one particular sentence and I would physically feel my heart fill with love and float higher and higher into the sky while Take Me To Church is playing in the distance.

Starting with The Nomeolvides girls. I adore the way McLemore made the garden like a person, like a God; she gave the garden a beating heart and a mind of its own. A Nomeolvides is as likely to fall in love with a woman as with a man but their love will always make them disappear What I did not expect was the incredible family dynamic, the atmospheric writing, the adorable romance and the interesting setting.
Love grew such strange things. The ones who give everything to the universe and stay good at heart even when it's treating them horribly.

They broke how they broke. The thought that I almost gave up my chance not only at love but at being fully myself, that still scares me sometimes. The ones who are too good. It remembers all and refuses to forgive until the deed is done. So La Pradera brought them a boy, Fel.
